Home description

The apartment is a good size, very clean, light and friendly. It has a large living room with two sleeping couches (each couch sleeps 2), cable-colour-TV with 25 Programmes, and a CD player. There is also a fully equipped small kitchen with microwave, one large table with 4 chairs, and plenty of storage for skis, bikes and so forth.

There is also a glorious balcony with beautiful views.

The apartment is very conveniently located for the village. Close by are a supermarket, many restaurants and the Kaprun indoor tennis centre. The area itself is fantastic as well. Despite its low height Kaprun is set at the foot of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier - so you will have guaranteed snow and fantastic scenery here. The Salzburgerland region

Salzburg is an increasingly popular destination for visitors and rightly so. Acclaimed by all the guide books as one of the prettiest cities in Europe, with a population of just 150,000 it still retains a homely small-city atmosphere. As the birthplace of Mozart, Salzburg offers a wonderfuly preserved old town which is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. It has some of the most stunning surrounding landscapes as a result of its position just a stonesthrow from the Alps.

Explore the Werfen Giant Ice Caves. These magnificent ice caves, the largest in the world, are definitely worth a visit. Reaching the caves is an adventure in itself and offers spectacular views: Open only during summer.

Go to the Krimmler waterfall - the highest cataract in the Austrian Alps, with a fall of 1,247 feet (380m), it drops in three stages - upper, middle and lower. Its upper fall is the most impressive, with a 460-foot (140m) drop. The falls can be reached by foot trail or bridle path from the nearby village.

Visit Badgastein, where the thermal water is widely reputed for its healing ability due to its active ingredient, radon, which can be absorbed in very small doses either by breathing or through the skin. This completely natural, safe and very gentle therapy which is performed under constant medical supervision, has proven itself especially beneficial in the treatment of asthma, chronic sinusitis and rheumatic as well as arthritic conditions.

Also within striking distance are the cities of Munich, Prague and Venice for 2 day trips.

Days out recommended: Grossglockner National park - fantastic hairpin bend ride up to the highest mountain in Austria Visit Zell am See - beautiful lake, swimming in the summer Krimmler waterfall - highest in Austria Visit: Badgastein (famous spa town), Kitzbuhel (exclusive ski resort)

Kaprun area

Kaprun is an ideal centre for visiting a wide area of Europe, with excellent road and rail links in all directions.

Despite its low height Kaprun is set at the foot of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier - so you will have guaranteed snow and fantastic scenery here. Kaprun is a charming picturesque little village placed close to its well known neighbour Zell am See which is a free bus ride away. The 'Europa Sport region' lift pass covers both the glacier and Zell am See as well as the Lechnerberg and Maiskogel slopes which are directly beside Kaprun village.

The skiing With over 130km of varied piste in 4 different areas above and below the tree line this area will appeal to all. The Kitzsteinhorn glacier guarantees the snow. The free bus connects you to Zell am See (a 10-15 min ride) where you will find pretty tree lined slopes with great views down to the lake.

Kaprun is an ancient village, first mentioned in documents of 931 AD (February 9th to be precise!) when it had a slightly more wordy title: 'Chataprunnin in Pisoncia'. Kaprun Castle was built upon one of the dominent ridges in the 12th century and mentioned for the first time in 1280. Today it holds a number of cultural events, as well as hosting the 2 day castle festival every August. Kaprun Alpine Reservoirs were constructed in 1955, the Kaprun dam made the village famous. Visit these alpine reservoirs surrounded by spectacular mountain ranges, learn more about electricity and explore the 'inner life' of a dam.

Bring your inline skaters and enjoy the skating area in the centre of Kaprun.

Apres Ski - There is an active nightlife with a majority of quaint rustic bars and eateries but with the snowboard boom helping to fuel a lively bar scene as well. Hi Chris

Thanks very much for the rent of your apartment. It's a lovely apartment and so close to everything. We had loads of snow on the glacier so were able to snowboard almost to 2pm which was great (this did mean that we didn't get much else done!!)

You might want to mention on your info sheet that the supermarkets aren't open on Sundays as that caught us out so we went round the corner from the apartment to Bella Casa and had really lovely Italian/Greek food which was cheap with massive portions (can highly recommend that one).

Anyway, thanks once again and I will probably be in touch for another trip next year.

Kind Regards

Hazel Richardson
